Celebrating 25 Proud Years of
Providing Abortion Services

One week after the Roe v. Wade decision on January 22nd in 1973, Susan Hill went to work in the first abortion clinic in Florida outside of Miami. She was 24 years old at that time. Twenty-five years later, she is now the President and CEO of the National Women's Health Organization, Inc. in Raleigh, N.C. NWHO owns and operates eight women's clinics in eight states, specializing in providing abortion services to women in under served areas of the country. The clinics are in Fargo ND (the only clinic in the state), Jackson MS (one of only 2 clinics in the state), Wilmington DE, Raleigh NC, Columbus GA, Ft. Wayne IN, Milwaukee WI, and Orlando FL.

"25 years is a landmark", Ms. Hill states. "I think we have won the abortion debate. When young women in Mississippi find our clinic on the internet, then come in for an abortion believing that it is their right to choose, the abortion rights movement has accomplished its mission. Women and men in this country will not surrender that personal choice. Abortion has become mainstream and I am proud to have been part of that historic social movement."

Ms. Hill has been in the forefront of the abortion rights movement, having sat on the Board of Directors of the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL) and the National Abortion Federation (NAF). She was one of the founders of the National Coalition of Abortion Providers (NCAP) in Washington and has been a member of the National Organization for Women (NOW) and the Feminist Majority Foundation in Washington.

NWHO clinics have been plaintiffs in over 30 Federal and State lawsuits concerning abortion rights, more than any other clinics in the country. Their Delaware clinic is the lead clinic plaintiff in the RICO case, NOW v. Scheidler, charging several anti-abortion leaders with racketeering activities. Their North Dakota and Mississippi clinics have won FACE Injunctions in Federal Court, protecting the safety of their patients.

NWHO has experienced its share of violence with 15 arsons (including an arrest and 4-year prison sentence for one arsonist), 2400 arrests in front if its facilities, and the murder of a staff physician, Dr. David Gunn, in Pensacola. Despite all that, NWHO has provided abortion and gynecology services to over 500,000 women in the U.S. in a compassionate manner since 1976.

Filming at the clinics and interviews are welcome.
