Introduction
- Columbus Women's Health Organization (CWHO) is a State-licensed
ambulatory surgery Center which specializes in reproductive health
care including emotionally supportive abortion care. CWHO
maintains a friendly atmosphere with patient care monitored at a
high professional level. Our physicians performing abortions are
licensed medical doctors with specialized expertise in abortion
medicine. They are assisted by licensed nurses, CRNAs, laboratory
technicians, and trained counselors. CWHO complies with
State regulations and local medical standards.
Appointments
- Call us in advance to make an appointment. The toll-free 800 number is
answered Mondays through Thursdays from 8:30 am until 8:00 pm EST, Fridays
8:30 am
until 7:00 pm, and Saturdays 7:00 am to 2:00 pm EST. Please bring any special
problems to the attention of the phone counselor. If the appointment has
to
be canceled for any reason, please let us know at least a day in advance.
You must make your appointment and receive informed consent over the phone
24 hours in advance of your procedure. Call us for more information.
Eligibility
- Eligibility for our procedures is up to the physician
performing the abortion. Patients traveling great distances should
have their pregnancy confirmed before making an appointment. We
use our physicians pelvic exam, the date of the last normal
menstrual period (LMP), and a sonogram to confirm
eligibility.
The
Cost
- To ensure confidentiality we do not send bills for abortions. Fees are
all-inclusive and include pre- and post-abortion counseling, laboratory studies,
local anesthesia,
physicians fee, and birth control information. A post-op exam and RhoGam
for Rh- women is an additional modest charge, as is general anesthesia. General
anesthesia is included in the Second Trimester procedures. Full payment must
be made on the day of the abortion in the form of money orders, cashier's
check, American Express, Mastercard, VISA, Discover, or cash. The credit
card
owner must be present to sign the sales receipt if a credit card is used.
For collection reasons, we do not accept personal checks. This policy allows
us to keep costs to a minimum. We do accept insurance reimbursement verified
in advance. The fees below are all subject to
change.

Early
Abortion
- After medical history forms, labwork, and counseling are
completed, you will be escorted into the procedure room. A mild
sedation may be given to eliminate anxiety. The abortion method
used is non-traumatic vacuum aspiration. It's hard to say what the
abortion will feel like since it's different for each person. Some
women compare it to menstrual cramps. But, because we use the
simplest procedures, discomfort is kept to a minimum. We offer
general (asleep) anesthesia for women who want to be asleep during
the procedure. Afterwards, you are closely monitored for
approximately 1 hour in a comfortable recovery room under the
supervision of the nursing staff.
Late
D&E Abortion
- These abortions performed after the 12th week of pregnancy are
similar to first trimester procedures, but because the pregnancy
is more advanced, more time, greater physician skills, more
medications, and more recovery time are required.
