Birmingham Clinic Bombing by Ann Rose
January 29, 1998: On the morning of January 29th, a sophisticated bomb exploded in front of the New Woman All Women Health Clinic in Birmingham, Alabama, killing off duty police officer Robert "Sandy" Sanderson and wounding clinic nurse Emily Lyons. Eric Robert Rudolph is being sought as a suspect.

The owner of the clinic, Diane Derzis, is an old friend and I journeyed to Birmingham a few days later to help out and offer moral support. The eerie scene before us on Sunday evening was of the bomb crater in front of the building with pink flourescent strings tracking the trajectory of the hundreds of nails included in the bomb toward the building. This visual has prompted me to create a banner that organizations and individuals can place on their webpage to express their outrage at this continuing war of terrorism against abortion clinics and clinic workers, and to link to information about these issues.
